Fort Hood tragedy closes in focus on background screening

The Department of Defense released it’s final review on preventing a repeat attack on Tuesday and has created a counterintelligence program to improve information sharing. One of the main programs is to institute an iwatch program, similar to a neighborhood watch for soldiers and their family members. This plans to create a community whereby all those directly and indirectly involved in the armed forces to take a bigger role in seeking out individuals who may pose a risk. Background screening has been enhanced and centralized, which again reminds us of the significance the background checks hold, and the difficulties that they aim to prevent. Without question, we hope that these recommendations will help to prevent anything like the Fort Hood attack from happening again.]]>
